“Qu’ils mangent de la brioche” and other such foodie quotations!

October 14, 2011

… OR (translated) “Let them eat cake”!!!

Marie Antoinette

This quotation, as attributed to Marie Antoinette, was claimed to have been uttered during one of the famines that occurred in France during the reign of her husband Louis XVI.   Having been told that her people were suffering due to widespread bread shortages, the Queen is said to have replied, “Then let them eat brioche”!

Whether or not the ill-fated French royal did or did not actually utter these words, it is a phrase that has gone down in history… and now a wonderful NEW set of Mason Cash mixing bowls has incorporated a fun play on this and a couple of other famous quotations; and I’m certain every baker in the land will absolutely love to own (at least) one!!     The Mason Cash range of mixing bowls are already a staple item in many a baker’s kitchen, and now even more so as they venture into this fun and vibrantly coloured range!

There are 3 bowls available…. first “Let them eat Cake” in a beautifully vibrant royal red colourway and a sporting a regal crown…Bowl 1 "Let them eat Cake"

Next up …. “God Save the Cream”!

"God save the Cream"!!

and finally,  “Off with her Bread”!!!!

Off with her Bread!

All three are tremendous fun, and the red-white-and-blue colouring I’m sure will be extremely popular in the year to come with the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II coming up in the UK.     If you’re like me, you’ll love baking anyway – but all three of these designs would surely raise a smile with anybody toiling away in the kitchen!

I have chosen to buy the vibrant red “Let them eat cake” bowl; I purchased mine from the fabulous Lakeland website – and I’m hoping to save up to buy the other 2 designs sometime soon to complete my collection!

“Such fun”!!! Which one is your favourite??
