Gerbera Wedding Cake & Cupcake Tower

June 22, 2012

Quite recently I was asked by a previous wedding client to make a cupcake wedding tower for her mother-in-law, who was getting married.   I really love it when a client stays in touch after their wedding or special event…(in this instance Lynette and I quite often talk through my Facebook page) and of course I’m doubly delighted when they place another order down the line!

Lynette’s Mum-in-law’s wedding colours were Red & Black, and her flowers were to be the ever-bonny Gerbera.   The wedding was to be held in a lovely coastal hotel, and was to be an intimate ceremony with only the closest of friends and family in attendance.  It was clear to us both, therefore, as the number of cakes needed was relatively small we’d have to make as much of an impact as possible through the design.

A beautiful pink daisy like Gerbera

Gerberas are such a beautiful flower; happy and bright (see above).   I’ve often seen a red gerbera, but never a black one…. do they exist?  I’m sure some of my flower expert friends (such as Rona Wheeldon from Flowerona) will soon tell me!  However, when it comes to your wedding day, if you want a black gerbera you can surely have a black gerbera when it comes to your wedding cakes!

Above is a photo of the finished tower, and below it another image showing some detail of the matching giant cupcake with a background, in black and white, of the little supporting cupcakes!  You’ll see in the colour shot that we kept the design simple and elegant, taking care to use matching red and black cupcake cases – arranged in alternate colours – to preserve the visual impact.

Delighted to say the bride and groom were “chuffed to bits” and I wish them the very best for their future!
